Pacifica Radio and KPFA to Re-launch Acclaimed National Politics Program
Letters to Washington Takes a Hard Look at the Debates, the Deals, the Scandals, and the Controversies around Capitol Hill.

(Berkeley, CA - September 3, 2009) As Congress returns from its August recess, so does Pacifica's acclaimed look at national politics from a progressive perspective - Letters to Washington hosted by Mitch Jeserich.  Starting on Tuesday, September 8th, the day Congress returns to take up such issues as healthcare, global warming and the war in Afghanistan, Pacifica Radio and KPFA will launch this weekly 2 hour series.

From tea baggers and armed right wing protesters greeting President Obama outside town hall meetings to the death of Senator Ted Kennedy to Attorney General Eric Holder appointing a special prosecutor to investigate torture, a dramatic national story about the future of the country unfolded during the traditionally quiet Congressional August recess.  Next week it's for real.  Lawmakers return to Washington to wheel and deal on bills that could shape the country on everything from health care to global warming for decades to come.

"In a time of political and economic turbulence, Letters to Washington has a stellar track record of bringing to a wide audience what Pacifica does best - shining a bright light on the workings of those in power to hold them to account," says KPFA General Manager Lemlem Rijio.

Pacifica Radio and Letters to Washington will bring special coverage to the debates, the deals, the scandals, and the controversies around Capitol Hill.  "With Letters to Washington, we aim to cut through the rhetoric and get to the heart of what is actually happening and being proposed," says host Mitch Jeserich.

The program airs live on KPFA on Mondays from 10am to noon Pacific time.
